What are the benefits of music lessons for children?Music lessons are fantastic for kids! They offer a bunch of awesome benefits. Not only do they boost cognitive development, but they also improve focus and discipline. Plus, they enhance coordination, spark creativity, and help kids express their emotions through music.
-
How do I choose the right instrument for my childPicking the perfect instrument for your child can be exciting! Start by considering their age, physical traits, interests, and what they want to achieve with music. We've found that it's often best if the student can pursue the instrument that they are most drawn toward. We're happy to help you find the right one. To make it easier for you, we have instruments at the school for your kiddo to try out during their lesson and most of our staff are able to teach multiple instruments. We also have a handful of instruments available to rent.
-
How much practice time is necessary for progress?Well, we like to call it PLAY instead of practice. So don't worry, it doesn't have to be overwhelming. Start with shorter practice sessions and gradually increase the time as you or your child build your skills. Around 15-20 minutes of daily practice is great for most younger beginners but the real go-getters and some of older students will do 30-60 minutes per day 4-6 days each week It's important to consider what the student's goals are and adjust the practice expectations to fit. JAMS is a fun first music school and we want every student to enjoy their experience with us. For many of our students the weekly interaction during their classes or lessons is the favorite part of their learning experience.
-
What is the ideal age to start music lessons? There's no fixed age for starting music lessons! But a good rule of thumb is around 3-7 years old for intro classes like our Rockin' Tots program. By age 5, kids usually have better fine motor skills and attention span and have a better chance for success. We have very reasonable expectations in terms of at home playing/practice time for kids at this age.
-
How often do special events happen, such as open mics and band shows? At Jam Academy, we strive to provide our students with ample opportunities to showcase their talents and grow as musicians. Our calendar features monthly open mic nights, biannual recitals, and exciting rock band performances occurring 3-5 times per year.
