John is one of our most popular instructors. He is a terrific teacher who loves to make lessons fun and rewarding for his students. He has lots of experience working with adults, kids and teens as well as children with special needs. Incredibly, John Is the Drummer, Lead Singer and sometime guitarist in the local band Aster House - formerly known as JAR. When not teaching at Jam Academy or performing at a local venue, John can be found working as a paraeducator for the Edmonds school district.
Sabrina is a multi instrumentalist and composer, who teaches Violin, Piano and Guitar. She has been classically trained on violin, her instrument of choice for over fifteen years. Sabrina greatly looks forward to meeting and working with other musicians who are interested in learning the art of music.
Additionally she has recently graduated from Full Sail University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Recording Arts and is now a certified audio engineer.
Matthew Munson is a well-versed guitarist and percussionist who specializes in fun and engaging lessons based in music theory. He studied under Ethan Bott for nearly eight years and led the Woodinville High School Falcon Drumline during his senior year. For three consecutive years Matthew qualified for and competed at the Washington State Solo And Ensemble competition. He developed a love for jazz guitar while performing in both junior high and high school jazz bands, including the WHS advanced jazz combo group.
Today Matthew teaches students of all ages, introducing new concepts along with awesome songs in customized formats to suit his students’ tastes. He believes that understanding the theoretical side of music is crucial in becoming a well-rounded musician. Back when Matthew was introduced to theory, he sometimes struggled to stay awake during long lectures. That’s why he keeps his lessons lively with plenty of engaging conversations and interactive exercises. In his free time Matthew climbs at various climbing gyms in the Pacific Northwest. He is currently studying Civil Engineering at the University of Washington.

Riley has been a music fan since he was young. After hearing Led Zeppelin and of course seeing the movie School of Rock, he started playing drums at the age of 10 and has been hooked ever since. Around 14, he started coming to Jam Academy (known as Spotlight Studios at that time) for the weekly Metal Shop course with a few friends. He also participated in the All Fool’s Parade as the drummer for the 4 bands that performed.
Riley soon began to play guitar and bass as well as drums. In late 2008, he formed the band Transcendence with a few of his close friends as the guitarist. In 2009, they recorded an EP at Jam Academy with instructor Jeff Brown. Years, later in the summer of 2013, the band reformed and played many shows around Seattle. By the end of the summer they completed an album which is available to listen to on Bandcamp.
Riley graduated from Colorado State University in 2016 with a degree in Communications and Liberal Arts. During this time, he became an intern for The Blasting Room Studios in Fort Collins, Colorado. He was able to work with many national touring bands at the Blasting Room, as well as have his own band, Fiddafoe record an EP that he helped produce and play guitar on. This is available for listening on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music, and many other platforms.
These days, Riley loves watching the Mariners, teaching music students, playing music with friends, and spending time with family.
